A short-term study abroad through the College of Media (JOURN 460)

Taking a break from our long, hot, day In the Kantamanto Market

The Kayayei Youth Association is an organization that supports young female head porters, known as kayayei, who migrate to cities in search of work. They focus on improving members’ living and working conditions by providing advocacy, resources, and opportunities for education and empowerment.

During our visit, we went to their office and spent a couple of hours meeting with members of the organization to better understand their needs and goals. We discussed ideas for improving their digital presence, especially through the creation of a website that could help share their story, attract support, and connect with a wider audience.

Following the meeting, we developed a website and a media kit for the association. These materials were designed to highlight their mission, showcase their impact, and provide a professional platform for outreach, fundraising, and future partnerships.
